Drumroll please... because this one deserves a spotlight. Proudly designed by Byerlee Design, Baterista is a special wine collaboration between Paxton Wines and The Killers’ drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. The project was born when Ronnie met the Paxton team and connected with their hands-on, biodynamic approach. A rather ‘organic’ friendship was formed. The deeper they dove, the more they discovered a mutual admiration between the constructed rhythm of drumming and the natural cycles of organic farming. It felt only fitting that a special wine be created, and so, Baterista was born (Spanish for ‘drummer’). This is an extremely small-batch Shiraz from 50-year-old vines on Paxton’s biodynamic vineyards in McLaren Vale, wild fermented, and selected from just a few standout barrels.
The label’s typographic design takes the drinker on a journey, built around a central drum and keyhole - a visual metaphor that ties directly to the rear label, where a single key symbol appears between the signatures of David Paxton and Ronnie. Surrounding the drum, circular rings of text ripple outward, echoing soundwaves, growth rings, and the pulse of the vineyard. It weaves together thoughts on time, movement, and harmony, and the belief that “rhythm is energy, and energy is the key.” A beautiful notion that can be unlocked and applied to all facets of life - if you choose to find your key. The concept invites the drinker to slow down, explore the story, and connect with the meaning behind the wine, making the act of drinking this premium Shiraz both an experience and a conversation.
